The The James E. Katz Award for Outstanding Empirical Research in Mobile Communication​​​​​​​​​​​​​

 

The James E. Katz Award for Outstanding Empirical Research in Mobile Communication recognizes exceptional empirical scholarship that has advanced the field of mobile communication. This yearly award recognizes a particularly strong empirical contribution (employing quantitative or qualitative methods) grounded in the field of Mobile Communication published in the preceding two calendar years. The intent is to highlight scholarly work (books, journal articles, book chapters, and peer-reviewed conference papers) that combine methodological rigor with theoretical significance. The winner will receive a $1000 USD (one thousand American dollars) cash prize, in addition to a ICA plaque.

 

Selection Criteria: 

To ensure fair comparison across books, journal articles, book chapters, and peer‑reviewed conference papers, the committee will evaluate all nominated works within their context using the following criteria:

• Methodological rigor of research design and clarity of argument

• Strength of evidence 

• Theoretical or substantive contribution to Mobile Communication as drawn from the empirical material under analysis

• Significance for the field, including conceptual, empirical, or methodological impact

Eligibility Criteria: Authors must be members of the ICA Mobile Communication Division, and the submitted book, journal article, or book chapter must have been published within the preceding two calendar years. Works can be self-nominated or nominated by a third-party.
