The Rich Ling Mobile Communication Book Award

This yearly award recognizes a particularly strong monograph in the field of Mobile Communication published in the preceding five calendar years. The intent is to highlight books that have been influential or have the potential to be influential in the field and combine methodological rigor with theoretical significance. The winner will receive a wood plaque designed and crafted by Rich Ling, in addition to recognition at the ICA Mobile Communication Division business meeting at the ICA conference.

 

Selection Criteria:

  • Substantive contribution to Mobile Communication

  • Significance for the field, including conceptual, empirical, or methodological impact (based on citations and reviews)

  • Methodological and theoretical rigor of research and clarity of argument

Eligibility Criteria:

  • This award is for authored or co-authored books. Edited volumes are not eligible for this award

  • The book is grounded in the field of Mobile Communication, that is, it explores how mobile devices, platforms, and networked infrastructures shape the movement of human bodies, social life, psychology, and culture.

  • The work has been published in the five calendar years preceding the nomination deadline.

 

Submission Requirements: 

Works can be self-nominated or nominated by a third-party. Submissions must include the following documents in a single pdf file:

  • A one-page (self)nomination letter

  • A 500-word summary of the work addressing the selection criteria specified above.

  • The book

Winners:

First winner will be announced in 2027!
